Twin Peaks

Twin Peaks of Gunung Merapi and Gunung Merbabu

Rising up to the heavens proudly on Java Island (Indonesia), the majestic twin peaks of Gunung Merapi (Fire Mountain) – 2,930 m high, and Gunung Merbabu (Ash Mountain) – 3,145 m high, are truly spectacular to behold from above the clouds. Gunung Merapi is active, in fact it is the most active volcano in Indonesia and has erupted regularly since 1548, while Gunung Merbabu is now dormant. In the photo, Gunung Merbabu is to the right. The late afternoon sun softly illuminating the clouds from the west, giving them a beautiful golden cast.
